Stephen R. Stanfel

A native of San Francisco , Stephen R. Stanfel earned a BS in accounting from the University of San Francisco. He then joined the audit department of Ernst & Whinney, San Francisco, later transferring to the San Jose office where he served hi-tech clients during the first large IPO boom in the mid 1980s. While in San Jose, Steve gained tax experience and soon decided that this was the career for him. He joined Calegari & Morris in 1985, and began working on an MS in taxation, which he received in 1992.

Steve has developed what he calls an "aggressively proactive" service model. He speaks with his clients on a regular basis to understand their progress during the year and to guide them toward their goals, ensuring that every effort is made to maximize cash flows and minimize taxes. Steve serves a wide variety of clientele, placing particular emphasis on construction companies and mid-size commercial entities, and the individuals who own them. He's developed keen expertise in both assisting companies to select the legal entity that best supports their business and personal objectives and in structuring transactions that take advantage of this foundation. It's Steve's goal is to become the first person his clients turn to with financial concerns.

Steve also has administrative responsibilities within the firm including budgeting, preparing financial statements, and overseeing MIS and facilities . Steve is a member of the estate planning councils of San Francisco and Marin.

When not busy saving his clients money, Steve works out hard with the Olympic Club Triathlon team. He is active in the Olympic Club committee system, currently serving on the junior and intermediate committees. He also enjoys spending time with is wife, daughter, and son in northern Marin County where he coaches Pop Warner football. Steve is also a member of the Meadow Club, a country club in Fairfax, California.
